Alptamise Lynnette Hailey was born January 22, 1973, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Mary Ellen (Terry) and Michael G. Hailey. She was their first child. Her father, Michael joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, NV. They ultimately settled in the Las Vegas Valley.
Alptamise was always helping people. It was as natural as breathing to her. She was willing to do almost anything for almost anyone. This attitude eventually led her into the healthcare field. After graduating high school, she took courses and earned her Certified Nursing Assistant License. She initially put that to use in one of the many Nursing Homes in Las Vegas. That’s where she met her future husband, Thomas Joseph Hinds. From there she moved on and started working on the Cardiac floor of Valley Hospital.
Alptamise wanted to do more, something that truly helped people. So, she went back to school to earn a Massage Therapist License. She started using her license in country clubs and worked with several chiropractors both in Las Vegas and Georgia. She eventually struck out on her own, as a sole practitioner. She had a very successful career. Her other interests cast a wide and varied net. She loved photography, which she mostly put to great use at Camp To Belong, taking pictures of children from families separated by the Foster Care System. She wrote for a magazine. She hosted an internet talk show about healing oneself with the foods we eat. She even created her own magazine centered around Pageantry.
After a nine-year courtship, Alptamise and Thomas got married. While the two never had children of their own, she accepted and loved her stepchildren with all her heart. And when grand children came into the picture, she became a Momma-Bear. Or Mimi-Bear. Her grandchildren all called her Mimi, a nickname her own family had used for years. Her love for those babies was all encompassing. About her 28-year relationship with her husband Tom, she often commented, “We laugh every day.”
Alptamise was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Bernice and George Hailey; and her maternal grandparents Margaret (Lewis) Terry and Arthur Terry.
Alptamise (Al) Hailey-Hinds leaves to cherish her life & memories, Her Husband Thomas Hinds, Her father, Michael, Her Mother Mary, Her sister Tenesia Hailey and her Brothers Marcus Hailey, and Brian & Christopher Craft, Her Stepmother Becky Simms, Her stepchildren Jason, Nicolas and Heather Hinds, Twin nieces and a nephew, and of course her Grandchildren who she adored so much, Xander, Oliver & Seras, Special friends Ethel and Billy Suggs, and a host of other friends who all recognized Al as the Earth Angel she was.
