Evelyn Elizabeth Jones

Evelyn Elizabeth Jones was born on December 7, 1937, in Currie, North Carolina, the oldest daughter of five children to the late George and Maria Beatty. Evelyn’s parents decided to leave North Carolina and move to Alexandria, Virginia where she enrolled in Parker Gray High School. Evelyn had to drop out of school in the eleventh grade to take care of her mother, who was hit by a speeding automobile and was confined to bed for months. Evelyn had a great relationship with her mother and would watch everything she did before she got hurt, that’s when she realized she had to be the house mother for her family.

Evelyn met Crayton Jones Jr., when he was in the high school band, and she was a cheerleader. After graduation Crayton joined the U.S. Airforce and after basic training he came home and they were married, she was seventeen and he was eighteen, this union lasted from 1954 – 2023 with three wonderful children.

Evelyn inspired many people, she saw the good in people and never judged anyone in a negative way. She practiced the “Golden Rule” treat others like you want to be treated.

Preceding Evelyn in death was her mother and father, one older brother and a younger sister. Evelyn is survived by her loving husband Crayton Jones; two sons Crayton Jones III and Larry Jones; one daughter Iris Tripplett; older brother George Beatty; younger sister Mable Lewis; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Evelyn’s favorite bible verse was Proverbs 3:5-6. Evelyn was a member of Unity’s choir for many years, she also served as a nurse and an outstanding deaconess in attending people needs. Evelyn was loved unconditionally throughout contact. May God bless and keep her until we meet again.
