James Evans Jr. began a mortal life on December 20, 1949, in Chicago, IL to the late James Evans Sr., and Hattie Evans Williams. He was the only son and second oldest of three children, born to this union. James confessed a hope in Christ at an early age.
James was joined in holy matrimony to Evelyn Adams on July 10, 1982.
James attended Hirsch High School. After graduation, he served as a medic for the Army National Guard at Fort Ord in California, where he was honorably discharged. James had a long career with the United States Post Office where he retired after 38 years of loyal service.
In 2010, James and his wife Evelyn relocated to Henderson, NV, where he remained until his passing.
James Evans Jr. affectionately known to many as “BJ” was a valued friend holding long term friendships for several decades. He was caring, resourceful, and a reliable son, husband, and father figure. He loved music, collection of cars, collection of light houses and was very knowledgeable of his family history. James was an avid bowler, frequent traveler, and an amateur photographer. James faithfully represented the Love Jordan lineage as a Chicago Chapter member for the annual Jordan Family Reunion.
James made his transition from this life to eternal rest on Sunday, June 18, 2023, after a day of Father’s Day celebration. He was preceded in death by his parents James Evans Sr. and Hattie Evans Williams, stepfather John Bill Williams and niece Christelle Evans.
He leaves to cherish his memory, beloved wife of 42 years, Evelyn; his children Rhonda (Tony) Hilliard and Andre Herron; sisters Alice Brown and Patricia Evans; stepbrother Michael (Loretta) Gilmore; niece and great niece Angela and Hope Honeycutt; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 1 aunt; Godchildren Cleveland and Harriet Coleman and a host of family and friends.
